The Georgian Parliament has adopted amendments to the law "On Public Health" in the first reading, so a special article will be added to the law on vaccination against COVID-19. 81 deputies voted for the amendments with a quorum of 76 votes. 82 parliamentarians were registered. The Speaker of the Parliament Archila Talakvadze said that tomorrow the amendments will be considered in the second and third readings in an accelerated manner.

According to the amendments, in the event of subsequent / side effects or complications after vaccination, in accordance with the National Calendar of Preventive vaccinations, the state provides free medical services and rehabilitation, except in cases where subsequent/side effects are caused by an error of medical personnel, medical institutions or the manufacturer of the product. It is also noted here that the drug must obtain a permit and pass the preliminary qualification of the World Health Organization.

Georgia is actively negotiating for the purchase of Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines through the WHO's COVAX platform. The country has ordered a vaccine for 20% of the country's population, which is 700 thousand people, and has already paid an advance-four million out of 17 million dollars.

On January 18, the COVAX platform received confirmation from Georgia that the country is ready to receive a coronavirus vaccine in the first quarter of the year. The first batch – about 20 thousand doses-will appear in Georgia in February. A small amount of the drug BNT162b2 of the American company Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech will be delivered to the country. This vaccine will be used to vaccinate medical workers.
