Rostame Asan talks about his work as a human rights activist representing the interests of the Yazidi minority.
"For about a year, I participated in conferences and events related to Yazidi women survivors, activating their role and justice, as well as transferring their voice to the decision-making center at the local and international levels. We have submitted many projects and proposals to the Government of Iraq and Kurdistan for the adoption of a special law for those Yazidi survivors who would like to return to school after they lost their academic places due to age. One of the most important problems of the Yazidi population is finding a job to bring them back to life and help them adapt.
The spiritual father of the Yazidis, Harto Haji Ismail, Bawe Sheikh, played a major role in making an official statement in defense of the surviving Yazidi women and children.
In early 2020, I met a high-ranking German official who visited one of the Yazidi refugee camps. The story of the Yazidi settlers made a huge impression on him, and I asked him to understand the problem of the Yazidi survivors and help them as quickly as possible."
Rostam, like the rest of his colleagues, calls for ensuring the rights of the surviving Yazidi women and for the release of the remaining abducted Yazidis from ISIS captivity.
