The World Monuments Fund has taken a significant step by restoring the Mama Rashan Yazidi Shrine, destroyed in 2014 during the Yazidi genocide.

The unveiling of the shrine was held in honour of the approaching 'Charsham Sare Sale' celebrations. This is an important step not only for those who have already returned to Sinjar, but also for all those who plan to return. The reconstruction of destroyed shrines plays a key role in the process of recovery from the violence perpetrated against the Yazidi people.

The renovation work began in 2020, and today the Mama Rashan temple is once again open to the public. Two additional buildings were also constructed as part of the project: a public hall for ceremonies and a sacred space (the place where the Harka is located).

This moment is of great importance to the Yazidis, allowing them to re-enact religious rituals in a sacred site, strengthening the connection to their history and culture.
