In Georgia, more than 160 food facilities refuse to work through delivery services in protest

Today, on January 30, more than 160 food facilities in Tbilisi will stop working through delivery services for 24 hours to protest the extension of restrictions on COVID-19. About it journalists were reported by the head of the Gastronomic Association of Georgia Levan Kochiashvili.

According to the decision of the Government of Georgia, from February 1, food facilities will work only in Adjara. While local restaurants and cafes will be able to accommodate guests at tables on the streets, the halls will remain closed.

In other regions of the country, food facilities can only operate takeaway. The Georgian government does not name specific dates, stating that the opening dates will depend on the epidemiological situation.

"Because of the lockdown, the country is on the verge of a social explosion. The business is going bust. Is in total unemployment. There are no effective steps to overcome the problems. As the government of the country misjudges the existing problems, constantly reminding us that we can use the delivery service, in protest for one day we refuse this service, " the statement on the association's Facebook page says.

The strike will begin today at 09: 00. Kokiashvili pointed out that the number of participants in the rally continues to grow. He expects that the list of objects that joined the protest will increase to 250. In addition to cafes, bars, restaurants and Khinkali bars, the Tbilisi delivery service "Elvis" supported the organizers ' demands. For 24 hours, this company will close its app to users.

"Other delivery services also express solidarity with our protest, but, like McDonald's, they cannot join because of agreements with international companies," Kokiashvili said in a comment to the agency. BM.ge.

According to the organizers, at the same time today and at 15:00, the owners and employees of food facilities will join the protest action in front of the Office of the Government of Georgia.

"We hope that the population will understand our step caused by extreme despair," the statement said.
