What do you think is the real reason for Peshmerga's retreat?

Haidar Shasho: I will say what I saw with my own eyes. 15 days until 03.08.2014 (the first day of the genocide of the Yazidis – approx. edition) we asked the Peshmerga and the representatives of the party (DPK) to create the Yezidi unit, which was ready to go to 3500 Yazidis, but unfortunately, they did not accept our demands and stated that the protection of Shangala (Sinjar) is their duty and prerogative, and they will not allow us to create power and to join the ranks of the Peshmerga, since stationed in Shangal 8000 Peshmerga and another 3,000 in Sumare. They promised that until the last drop of blood will protect the Shangal and will not allow the enemy to enter this land. But, unfortunately, on August 3, 2014, we saw them leave the Shangal without a fight, as a result of which hundreds of our women, sisters, mothers and children were captured and killed. If someone says that Peshmerga did not have a weapon and therefore they retreated, it is not true. With the weapons they had, they could have protected the Shangal for months and prevented ISIS from entering the city. In my opinion, the Yazidis were betrayed when Peshmerga without a fight retreated from Shangal and actually surrendered the population into the hands of the IG. From what angle it is not considered, it is called betrayal. They betrayed and sold the Yazidi people.

When the Peshmerga retreated, who defended the Yazidis in Shangal?

Haidar of Shasho : When the Peshmerga left Shangal, sangalli protect yourself. Many people remained in the shangal mountains, and in the immediate vicinity of the fighting, we were initially few.
