The village of Jarjaris (Derek) is in the Aragatsotn province of the Republic of Armenia.

Vlad Khudoyan noted that the social status of Yazidis in the village is average compared to neighboring villages in the region. The mountainous terrain provides favourable conditions for cattle breeding and soil cultivation, notes Vlad Khudoyan.

There is no normal road in the village. Jarjaris is located seven kilometres from highway and twenty miles from the nearest town. There is also no gas supply.

The village has a school, one of the largest schools in the region, where about a hundred students’ study. Children also learn their native Yazidi language, which, according to Vlad Khudoyan, plays an important role in preserving the identity of their ethnic origin. The technical and physical condition of the school is poor, and it has not been repaired for many years. After graduation, few people continue their studies. The reason is most likely the lack of public transport.

There are many families of Armenian origin in the village. For many years, Yazidis and Armenians living in the neighborhood have become accustomed to the traditional way of life and the religious structure of the Yazidi community. And even talking with the Yezidis in the Yezidi language.

Vlad Khudoyan is a self-taught singer and musician who often holds events both in the village itself and in neighboring ones.
