One of the sacred sites for Yazidis in Sinjar, (Iraq) is the shrine of Sayyid Zakir al-Din al-Araji, a revered Yazidi cleric who lived in the 13th century.

The shrine was bombed by ISIS militants in 2014, but thanks to the efforts of local residents and private sponsors, it was rebuilt, and now Yazidi population goes to the shrine to pray for peace and prosperity.

Yazidi faith is an ancient monotheistic religion that has its roots in ancient Mesopotamia. Yazidis believe in God (Hode), but they also believe in a hierarchy of angels and divine beings. The Peacock Angel (Melek Tawusi) is the most important angel in Yazidi faith.

Yazidis have been persecuted throughout history, but they have survived and preserved their unique culture and religion. Yazidi temples are a symbol of Yazidi resilience and their belief in a better future.

We, representatives of the Cultural Center of the Caucasus Yazidis are happy to hear that the temple has been restored and that Yazidis can now come there to pray. We hope that Yazidis will continue to prosper and never have to face the kind of persecution they have experienced in the past.
