NATO needs to become more global, and cooperation with partners, including Georgia, will be part of this, — this statement was made by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg at a press conference after a discussion with the foreign Ministers of NATO countries, which discussed the NATO development strategy.

When asked by channel One Georgia what place the Black sea region and Georgia occupy in this strategy, the NATO Secretary General replied that by 2030, NATO needs to become more global, and cooperation with partners, including Georgia, should be part of this strategy.

Stoltenberg also spoke about the significant investments that China has made in infrastructure in the black sea region and stressed that one of the important functions of the adapted Alliance will also be to protect critical infrastructure and increase the stability of NATO.

"One of the important parts of the NATO 2030 strategy is that NATO is facing increasingly global challenges. One of the main goals of NATO 2030 is to make NATO a more global Alliance and to have a more global approach. Obviously, we need to remain a North Atlantic Alliance, but we need a global approach, because many of the challenges we face are global. We see that one of these challenges is the strengthening of China. We see that China is approaching us. It invests heavily in NATO countries, as well as in Europe and the Black sea region. And in the black sea region there are three NATO countries and two partners-Georgia and Ukraine. NATO recognizes the importance of sustainability and the importance of protecting our critical infrastructure. We are strengthening mandatory capabilities for sustainable development, including the protection of telecommunications networks, health care, and areas critical to our society. NATO continues to adapt and protecting infrastructure will be an important part of this change. Obviously, it is too early to talk about this, but the sustainability and importance of working with partners — Georgia and Ukraine — will be an integral part of my proposal, which I will present to the leaders of NATO member countries," Jens Stoltenberg said.
