According to preliminary data from the national statistics service of Georgia, the volume of foreign direct investment (FDI) in Georgia in the third quarter of 2020 amounted to 302.6 million US dollars, which is 23.6% less than in the corresponding period of the previous year.

However, compared to the second quarter of this year, foreign direct investment increased by 25.2% in the third quarter of 2020.

In the third quarter of 2020, Georgia attracted the largest amount of foreign direct investment — US $ 117.7 million-from the United Kingdom. This is followed by the Netherlands with $ 79.3 million and the US with $ 24.2 million.

Other major investor countries are: Japan-us $ 15.6 million; Panama — US $ 14.6 million; United Arab Emirates — US $ 9.7 million; Luxembourg — US $ 8.3 million; Turkey — US $ 7.8 million; Czech Republic — US $ 5.6 million; Russia-US $ 5.3 million.

As for sectors, in the third quarter of 2020, the largest share of foreign direct investment — 128.3 million US dollars — was received by the financial sector; Followed by energy — 37.1 million US dollars; Processing industry-36.6 million US dollars; Mining - 31 million US dollars; real estate-20.6 million US dollars; Communications-14.9 million US dollars; Hotels and restaurants — 7.9 million US dollars; Health and social assistance — 2.7 million US dollars; Agriculture and fisheries — 1.6 million US dollars; Other areas — 21.8 million US dollars.
