Allocations for infrastructure projects in Georgia will increase by a third

The Agency's budget next year will amount to 2.3 billion lari, 995.5 million of which will be provided by international donors.

According to the draft state budget, the financing of the Ministry of regional development and infrastructure for 2021 will be the highest in the history of the Department's existence and will exceed the approved budget for 2020 by 551.3 million lari (30%).

Initially, the budget of the Ministry of Infrastructure for 2021 was 2.4 billion lari. However, based on the need to allocate resources for managing the COVID-19 pandemic, the amount of funding was decided to be reduced by 50 million. Thus, the Agency's budget next year will amount to 2.3 billion lari, 995.5 million of which will be provided by international donors.

Roads

Most of this money, 1.5 billion, will be spent on the development of road infrastructure. Funding for the construction of expressways will increase by 37.8% (853 million lari), work will continue on the modernization of the Rikot pass, the construction of the Batumi bypass road and the 21-kilometer section of the Samtredia-grigoleti Expressway will be completed, and the construction of the 30-kilometer Tbilisi-Sagarejo Expressway will begin.

As part of the so-called "village roads" program, such important projects as the repair and reconstruction of bagdati-Abastumani, Zemo Imareti-Racha and Zhinvali-Barisakho-Shatili roads will continue.

In 2021, 11 projects for the repair and construction of municipal roads will be completed, in which an 85-kilometer road will be built and up to 600 kilometers of road will be repaired. In addition, the repair of Central streets in cities in the West of Georgia – in Kutaisi, Zugdidi, Poti, and Zestafoni-will continue.
