Not only does the Iraqi government not properly help the Yezidi refugees and displaced persons in the camps, it also does not monitor the infrastructure.
Near the school of the “Jim Mashko” camp, where Yazidi refugees and displaced persons live, a mountain of garbage has accumulated, which no one takes out, resulting in a spontaneous dump.
Students and teachers of the camp complain of unpleasant odors emanating from the accumulation of garbage, which no one takes out of the camp.
According to local media, tons of waste accumulate on the outskirts of the school, which, in addition to being hotbeds of disease outbreaks, they also distort the landscape of the area, which can cause an environmental catastrophe.
Students at this school complain of constant unpleasant odors, many of them are forced to go to this school, as others are very far away. Residents have reported this problem to the camp administration and the relevant authorities several times, but to no avail.
The school is in the center of the “Jim Mashko” camp in the Zaho district, Dahuk region. 1,267 students attend the school, and 51 teachers work.
According to the director of the school, Hader Kassem Shammo, most of the displaced people dispose of their waste near the school. Several cleaning actions were organized with the participation of students, but all to no avail. After each cleaning, everything returns to normal.
According to the official statistics of the Kurdistan Regional Government, more than 4,300 displaced families, consisting of more than 21 thousand people, live in the camp.
There are two education departments in Sinjar district (Kurdish Language Department and Arabic Department). More than 54,000 students are enrolled in these departments, most of whom are still in camps and areas of Kurdistan.
