The most prestigious annual award for photojournalists presented a shortlist of applicants, among which was a photo of a Yazidi girl in captivity by ISIS in the category "Modern Problems". This photo was taken by Maya Aleruzzo (Associated Press). Although this photo did not win, it showed the world what modern slavery looks like.

Modern problems need to be brought to the world community in various accessible ways. Photographers are exactly the profession that puts their lives in danger, to reach out to us and open our eyes to the problems in the world.

"From 2014 to 2017, the regime "Islamic State" (ISIS) operated in the region of the traditional residence of the Yazidis near the Sinjar mountain range in northern Iraq. On its territory, slavery was practiced, men, women and children were sold: a slave cost 50 dollars, a child — 35. According to the AP, as of May 2020, 3,500 people have been freed from slavery, and the fate of another 2,900 remains unknown."
