The Ministry of immigration in Dohuk province announced that the percentage of Yazidi refugees and returnees who returned to the Shangal area from IDP camps in Dohuk province has significantly decreased compared to the previous period.

Manal Muhammad, Director of immigration in Dohuk province, told Ezidi24: "The percentage of returnees from displaced persons camps in Dohuk province to the Shangal region has significantly decreased. In recent months and after the spread of the coronavirus, 5,207 families from displaced persons camps have returned to Shangal."

He explained: "There are still 482,688 displaced persons in Dohuk governorate, both inside and outside the camps, and their overall situation is, to put it mildly, poor."

The reason the Yazidis are not returning to their ancestral lands in Shangal, Sinjar, and the Nineveh valley is because they are not complying with the Baghdad - Erbil agreement to normalize conditions in Shangal. People are afraid to return because Kurdish organizations do not want to adhere to the agreement and lose control of the Yazidi territories. Yazidi families are waiting for the agreement to be fulfilled in order to return home.
