The festival «Zakho and Shingal - One Soul» was organized by the non-governmental organizations "Khivi" and the Lalesh Cultural Center in the Cham Mishko camp, which is home for more than 20,000 displaced Yezidis from Shingal.

The main purpose of the festival was to honor the people of Zakho through their representatives and officials for the warm welcome and assistance that Yazidis received and continue to receive.

The festival that held on a modest field inside the Cham Mishko camp, began with some Yazidi deputies and officials expressing their gratitude to the people of Zakho, because they were accepting them in 2014, when they had to flee from a cruel terrorist attack on Shangal, during which were killed thousands of people and forced hundreds of thousands to flee their homes.

The head of the Supreme Spiritual Council of the Yezidis, political and also religious leaders presented awards to officials of various departments of Zakho as a sign of gratitude.

In August 2014, Zakho was one of the first places to receive Yazidi refugees. Residents of Zakho opened the doors of their houses and sheltered displaced people from Shingal.

Nechirvan Sheikh Shamo, a lawyer, expressed his gratitude to his Yazidi brothers and sisters for not throwing stones at the well they drink from, which is part of Yazidi culture, to express gratitude in a timely manner.

A dancing group «Sinjar Art Group», founded in 1981, has performed several Yazidi dances in traditional Yazidi clothing.

The famous Yazidi folklore singer Khalaf Khali also performed at the festival. He expressed the hope that all the displaced Yezidis will eventually be able to return to their homes, and then this festival can be held in Shangal.
