The total number of Yezidis, Arabs, Kurds repatriated from Belarus has now reached 3,556 people. Several dozen of them are Yezidi families. This was announced by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iraq Ahmad al-Sahaf.
According to the official, hundreds of repatriates were issued travel documents for the flight because they lost their passports during the trip.
"The Iraqi Consular Service issued a total of 383 passports to people who lost their documents and ended up on the territory of Belarus, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland," as-Sahaf explained.
Last Saturday, another 417 migrants flew from Minsk to Erbil on the ninth evacuation flight.
Most of the migrants who have flown to Belarus over the past few months in order to get into the European Union have arrived from Kurdistan.
The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) says it will continue joint efforts with Baghdad to return home migrants who voluntarily apply for repatriation. The Kurdistan authorities also asked EU partners to deliver humanitarian aid to those in need in the harsh winter conditions in Belarus and other regions.
Unfortunately, the Yazidi refugees found themselves in the most deplorable situation. They have nowhere to go back, they have spent all their savings, sold all their possessions to go to Europe. In the places where the Yezidi people live, everything remains in ruins, there is no infrastructure, there are also no basic living conditions, since these territories are considered disputed between the government of Kurdistan and Iraq. Neither of them want to invest in the disputed areas of residence of the Yezidi people.
