August 3, Yazidis around the world remember the sad date, the date of the Yazidi genocide
It has already been 7 years since the Yazidi genocide. Can we say that everything is already over and life has returned to the regions where this terrible event took place? Have the Yazidis of Iraq and Syria returned to normal life? In some media, it is customary to say that, " The genocide is over and life is getting better. Yes, there are more positive trends, the Yazidis are returning to their homes, although they are mostly destroyed." The genocide, alas, is not over yet. Cultural genocide is what is happening now with the Yazidi minority. Seven years after the genocide, little has changed in the fate of the Yazidi people in Iraq.
We, the Yazidi community around the world, should not forget what happened exactly 7 years ago, when a plague called ISIS (a terrorist group) invaded Iraq and Syria, in those regions where the Yazidis were little protected. The Yazidi regions and regions of other national and religious minorities were hit. ISIS abducted women for sexual slavery, and children for recruitment into its terrorist organization. Men and those who rebuffed them were killed. According to unofficial data, the statistics of the Yazidi genocide are given below:
- About 7,000 people received psychological and physical injuries
- Approximately 6,417 women and children were abducted
- More than 2000 people are currently missing
- More than 80 mass graves of Yazidis have been found
It is difficult for international organizations to provide accurate information about the number of victims of the genocide due to the unstable situation and the pandemic.

The Yazidi people have repeatedly faced genocide, but in order to avoid it in the future, we, the Yazidi people need to become stronger and not be indifferent to each other.
