Poetry is the music of hearts, a mirror of life and a cure for all pain. And poetry is also the voice and soul of the people in whose language a poetic work is created. Many beautiful poems have been written in the Yezidi language, but, unfortunately, the works of many of our authors are appropriated by peoples close to us in origin and speaking related languages. Now is the time when we can give something back. And the most important thing is not to repeat the mistakes of the past and not to renounce Yazidi.
Fortunately, there are authors who write in their native language and proudly declare their Yezidi identity. In fact, a new stage in the history of Yezidi literature has now begun, which is characterized by the rise of patriotic feelings. One of these authors is Sltana Mame– the new star of Yezidi poetry.
Sltana Mame was born on June 18, 1981 in Armenia, in the village of Gyalto, Talin district. Sltan graduated from high school in Russia. Now he lives with his family in the city of Yaroslavl. She has two wonderful children.
Sltan is the host of the program "Yezidi Tales" on the YouTube channel of the "Yezidi Congress", as well as a member of the Committee on Women's Issues at the "Yezidi Congress".

Tell us about your childhood. Where did it take place, in which family did you grow up?

I grew up in an ordinary Yezidi family. My childhood was spent in a small village where only Yezidis lived. My family moved to Russia when I was ten years old.

In your opinion, what should a Yazidi woman be like?

In my opinion, a Yazidi woman, first, should be pure in heart and soul and at the same time strong in any sphere. A woman, first of all, is a mother. Of course, life is not an easy thing, but we should not give up under any circumstances.

And what is the main meaning of life for you?

The meaning of life for each person can be different. From the moment I became a mom, everything changed in me. With the advent of children, I realized that children are not only the flowers of life, but the meaning of life.
I can't imagine my life without my beloved children and I wish every woman to feel maternal happiness.

It is known that you write poetry in the Yezidi language. How did your creative journey begin?

Since childhood, literature has been my favorite subject. I really like to read. The muse always visited me, but for some reason I did not obey her, most likely, I did not believe in myself.
When the great patriot Mirze Cholo, respected by all of us, passed away, I was just as hurt by the loss of such a great man who gave us the temple of Sultan Ezid and the temple of Tausi Melek and the seven angels, as it was painful for all our people. Out of respect and gratitude, I wanted from myself, from the bottom of my heart to do something in his memory. I wrote my first poem dedicated to Uncle Mirza. And since that moment I have written more than one hundred and thirty poems in my native language.

What topics do you write poems on? What inspires you in particular?

The topics are always different. Any topic inspires, but there is only one pain — our Homeland, our people, scattered all over the world, who survived seventy-four genocides.

What are your creative plans?

I do not know how my creative path will turn out. To be honest, I don't even have any plans.
But I have one dream — to publish a collection of poems and give it to my people. Leave a piece of your soul and heart forever.

Sltan, you have two wonderful children. Therefore, I would like to hear your opinion about the methods of raising children in the spirit of the Yezidi traditions. How to raise a child so that he does not lose his national identity, but at the same time grows up to be a self-sufficient citizen of the country?

Yes, child education in our time is not an easy matter. I think it all depends on us - the parents.
A lot depends on the direct influence on our children. That is, it is very important in the family to speak with children in their native language, according to tradition, to celebrate our national holidays. Of course, a lot of questions arise from the children. It is very important to explain everything, to tell. We have a rich culture, an interesting, beautiful language, incredibly beautiful music and literature, and much more. Yes, we do not have our own state, but we have our culture and our native language.

You are a member of the Committee on Women's Issues at the Yazidi Congress. What does the committee do? What contribution do you make to his work?

The work of my colleagues in the committee, in particular mine, is devoted to raising children in the national spirit, teaching native speech.
During the holidays, we attract children and create festive videos with them, in which children read poems and tell something interesting in their native language.

And finally, your wishes to the Yezidi people and separately to the Yezidis.

I wish my Yezidi people, first, freedom, great achievements, victory, to be united and united.
I wish our mothers and sisters to be loved and happy.
The Yezidi woman is like an angel in her purity and tenderness, so let our prayers bring peace to the whole world and peace to the Yezidi people.
