The head of the Reconstruction and Services Committee in the Iraqi parliament said that the lack of financial allocations and the presence of the (PKK) are preventing the implementation of projects and the restoration of Shangal, a region where the Yezidi population lives.

According to a Kurdish official, groups loyal to the PKK and the People's Militia Forces (PMF) are still in Shangal, despite the agreement signed by the governments of the Kurdistan Region and Iraq in October 2020, which aimed to restore stability and return Yazidi refugees to the city by ending the presence of the PKK, PMF and associated groups in the city and the deployment of regular federal forces..

According to local Yazidi activist Jangir: «Only 300 billion dinars were allocated for the restoration work in Shangal, which is a small amount compared to the destruction that the city underwent and how this amount will be spent and who will work on the restoration is not known, since neither construction equipment nor the builders themselves are in place. Honestly, no one cares about us Yazidis in Iraq, as a result, the extermination of the Yazidis continues in various forms.

Baghdad has neglected the Shangal area and treats its situation coldly and because of this, Yazidi refugees from this area have been suffering in tents for 8 years in summer from the summer heat and in winter from the winter cold.

The PKK's presence hinders the restoration of Shangal, Kurdish and Iraqi officials say, where they were when ISIS terrorists attacked Shangal and the Nineveh Valley in 2014, no one helped us Yezidis. We were left alone, one on one with the enemy without weapons and state support.

We were helped by the PKK and the local Yezidi self-defense units and militias, some of the Yezidi population are loyal to the PKK, they are grateful to them for saving the Yezidis. But the situation in the region is changing and the PKK commanders themselves must understand that it is time to leave the region where the peaceful Yezidi population lives».
