The Iraqi government has been criticized for the lack of real actions to implement the law "on Yazidi survivors".
Numerous online events and discussions were held on the settlement of the situation with the Yazidis, in which the Yazidis of Iraq, human rights defenders, lawyers and diplomatic officials took part, discussing the problems faced by the Yazidi people. Numerous Yazidi IDPs spoke about the harsh life in the camps, poor service and security that do not allow Yazidis to return to Shangal.
The Yazidi community has been subjected to particularly cruel treatment by ISIL, which has been recognized by many States as genocide. According to the Kurdistan Regional Government (PKK), more than 6,000 Yazidis were abducted by the terrorist group, and more than 2,000 are still missing. Thousands were killed in total, and hundreds of thousands were displaced, mostly to IDP camps in Kurdistan.
In October, the PKK and the Iraqi Federal Government signed an agreement on governance and security in the disputed area. In a pre-recorded message at a conference organized by Yazda, Kazimi promised to visit Shangal in the near future and said that more will be done for the community, recognizing that the October agreement is "not enough".
"The deal ends the power of the invading groups and paves the way for the restoration of the city and the full return of its residents," a spokesman tweeted at the time. We all know that all areas of Iraq need reconstruction, but Shangal is a special place for Yazidis to live. The terrorists wanted to destroy him physically, culturally and destroy his people. Therefore, it requires our special attention, taking into account the pain and wounds of its residents, " said Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kazimi.
Although Shangal was liberated in 2015, most of the area still lies in ruins. Armed groups vying for control of the strategic area were also mentioned as a factor preventing the Yazidis from returning home.
The panelists also turned to the Yazidi Survivors Act, a historic law passed in March that provides jobs, land and financial support to victims of ISIS brutality. However, in fact, nothing was done.
