Germany's Central Yazidi Council has called on the Kurdistan Workers ' party (PKK) to stop recruiting Yazidi children and release those held by force in their ranks. The organization reports that the PKK forcibly keeps young Yazidis in its ranks and gives them a choice: either they will serve, or they will be killed for “treason”.

"The PKK was initially attracted to the Yazidis, to prepare to repel a possible attack by ISIL. They also received a monthly salary that helped feed the family. After agreeing to be recruited, they were taken to remote areas and the Qandil mountains for ideological recruitment. They can't come back of their own accord. Those who decided to escape anyway were punished. Either killed or taken into custody . After indoctrination, they are used everywhere, for example: Turkey, Iraq or Syria. Many of the recruits are still young, " the Central Yazidi Council of Germany said in a statement.
Under the Convention on the rights of the child, the use of children as military force is prohibited, even if it is done on a voluntary basis. In addition, the use of children under the age of 15 in hostilities is considered a war crime.

Earlier, mass protests were held in Shangala demanding the release of Yazidis who are held in the ranks of the PKK.
Back in 2016, in a report, the international human rights organization Human Rights Watch reported that the PKK was recruiting Yazidi children and called for an end to the use of children as a military force.
It should be noted that the Kurdish military groups specifically do not mention that Yazidi girls and boys fought with them for the freedom of Shangal and the Nineveh valley.
