About Viranşehir

Viranşehir, in Şanlıurfa province, was another node of Yazidi settlement in south-eastern Turkey, with villages on the plains to its south.

Its Yazidi families largely followed the same path of emigration to Europe, and the district's Yazidi heritage now survives mainly in the diaspora's memory and occasional return.

This is a community place rather than a primarily religious one. Population and return figures move and are always given with a source and a date rather than stated as fixed.
