Overview

About Beşiri

Beşiri, a district of Batman province, was historically one of the most densely Yazidi parts of Turkey. Most of its villages emptied through emigration to Europe in the late twentieth century.

It has since been associated with efforts by diaspora families to rebuild homes and re-establish a seasonal or permanent presence in their ancestral villages.

This is a community place rather than a primarily religious one. Population and return figures move and are always given with a source and a date rather than stated as fixed.
