Parliament adopts draft law on remuneration in public institutions in 1st reading
The Parliament discussed the draft law on Remuneration in Public Institutions in the first reading and adopted it with 79 votes.
According to the parliament’s press office, the draft ensures compliance of the salaries of state-political officials with certain coefficients. Respectively, the salaries of the hereof officials shall be calculated according to the multiplication of the coefficients by the basic salaries. At that, the upper ceiling of the coefficients remains unchanged.
The Draft regulates the remuneration for the officials as follows: the President, Prime Minister, Minister/State Minister, Chair of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic, the First Deputy Minister/State Minister, Deputy Minister/State Minister, Deputy Chair of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic, Chair of the Supreme Council Committee/Faction, Minister and the First Deputy Minister of the AR, Deputy Chair of the Supreme Council Committee/Faction, Deputy Minister of AR, and member of the Supreme Council of AR.
The amendments become effective as of January 1, 2025. Respective changes are to be also introduced to the Law on Public Defender, and the Law on State Audit Service concerning the remunerations for the PD and General Auditor.
As the reporter, the Chair of the Georgian Dream faction, Rati Ionatamishvili noted, “The government has undertaken a fundamental public service reform in 2017, thus creating solid guarantees for the public workers and their rights, and fulfilling the Association Agreement commitments. Last year, given the compliance of the coefficients, the Parliament approved the initiative for complying the salaries of MPs with the coefficients. It is now paramount to apply the same standard to other political officials, including the executive authorities, the Public Defender, and the Auditor General.”
