Germany has promised to support Iraqi Kurdistan in the issues of Yazidi refugees and displaced persons
This week in Berlin, Iraqi Kurdistan President Nechirvan Barzani met with the German Federal Minister of Economic Cooperation and Development, Svenja Schulze.
The two sides discussed the development of Germany's relations with Iraq and Kurdistan, joint cooperation between the two countries in various fields, the situation in Sinjar, the status of Yazidi refugees, as well as the impact of climate change on Iraq.
Both sides also agreed on the importance of a comprehensive plan to solve these problems in Iraq, stressing the need and importance of assistance to Iraq, the resettlement of Yazidi refugees and displaced persons to their places of permanent residence, the development of renewable energy, reducing dependence on oil, encouraging the private sector and German investment in Iraq and Kurdistan.
President Nechirvan Barzani thanked Germany for its support for Iraq and Kurdistan and welcomed the recent agreements between Germany and Iraq, confirming Kurdistan's desire for further expansion of relations and joint cooperation with Germany.
Mrs. Schulz expressed her country's continued support and willingness to cooperate with Iraq and Kurdistan, especially in necessary areas, namely addressing the return of Yazidi refugees and displaced persons from their homes of residence, training the population in various fields and economic diversification in ways that support measures to cope with climate change in Iraq and Kurdistan.
