Another 59 Yazidi families are returning to their homes in Sinjar from Camp Sharya in Dahuk province, their homes have been repaired by humanitarian organizations, as reported to BasNews by the head of the Dahuk Migration and Crisis Department.

So far, at least 900 Yazidi families have registered to return to their settlements in the Sinjar district. Of these, 159 families have already arrived home and 29 have decided not to return for the time being.

The UN brokered the Sinjar agreement between Erbil and Baghdad in 2020. The aim of the agreement was to establish normal life in the Yazidi area and to facilitate the return of internally displaced persons. Recently, the head of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) expressed disappointment at the lack of progress in implementing the agreement.

Sinjar, the homeland of the Yazidi people, is currently occupied by various armed forces, and the continued presence of these armed groups hinders the implementation of the Sinjar agreement.
