Zourabichvili: 27 countries should decide together the future of Georgia, although the population has already decided this question
"Georgia wants to become a member of the European family, it is a historic choice. This determines our future", Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili said during her speech in the European Parliament.
According to her, Georgia's European choice is not only legitimate but also has no alternative.
"Madam President, Madam Roberta, distinguished members of the European Parliament, I want to thank the President and every political group for the opportunity you have given me to address this Assembly. This is a very serious turning point for my country, a moment of respect. Madam President, 13 years ago, when the President of Georgia appeared before this organization I spoke with a desire, shared by every citizen of Georgia, in the sense that Georgia wants to become a member of the European family. It is a historic choice. This defines our future. We are facing such a moment in the history of Georgia, when the Government of Georgia, its people, and 27 countries need to decide together what the future of Georgia should be. However, the people of Georgia have already decided this issue. I stand before you and tell you: our European choice is not only legitimate, it has no alternative. It is based on our values, our history, our attitude, our vision of a European future, that Georgia is reunited with its European family. I am the leader of the country, whose Constitution obliges every government agency to undertake every measure necessary to support the European integration. I am doing this tirelessly and I will be doing it not only to fulfill the requirements of the Constitution, but also based on my moral position", - stated Salome Zourabichvili.
