Government of Iraq offers a number of conditions to Yazidi refugees and displaced persons living in camps to return to their regions of permanent residence.

The migrants from Sinjar claim that their return depends on several conditions, including the stability of the security of the region and receiving compensation, in response to the efforts of the Iraqi Federal Government to close all IDP camps.

According to one of the points of the work program of the federal Government headed by Muhammad Shia al-Sudani, which won the confidence of Parliament at the end of October 2022, all displaced persons should be returned to their places of origin within six months, and this includes more than a million citizens who are still in the situation of displaced persons – according to statistics International Organization for Migration (IOM).

At a press conference held on December 29, 2022, the Minister of Migration and Displaced Persons of Iraq, Evan Jabro, stressed that the cases of displaced persons in Iraq will be considered within six months in accordance with the government's work program.

There are more than 600,000 displaced persons in Kurdistan, some of them are distributed in 26 camps, Yazidis make up 30 percent of the total number of displaced persons, most of whom are from Sinjar.
