The visit of Saudi guest Wael al-Dagfaq to the Yazidi temple Lalish, caused a mixed reaction from the Yazidi community. Some condemned his visit, accusing him of perpetuating "harmful" myths and stereotypes about Yazidis. Others take a more conciliatory approach, arguing that it is important to interact with people from all walks of life to promote mutual understanding and tolerance.

Subsequent articles and photos of Al-Dagfaq, which contained common misconceptions about Yazidis and the Yazidi faith, caused a lot of responses that reached the peak of lack of understanding of the situation, insulting both Muslims and Yazidi activists and bloggers.

To this day, apparently, there is no representative in the Lalish administration who would tell and explain to pilgrims and guests the history, culture and religion of the Yazidi people.

One of the Yazidi activists contacted Al-Dagfaq, and they had a "frank phone call" during which they discussed the situation, and after which Al-Dagfaq apologized to the Yazidi public for any misunderstandings that his visit might have caused, and that he deleted all records from his social pages.

Yazidi activists urge the Yazidi community to focus on building bridges with people from other communities, and not to dwell on past grievances. This is a message that should be listened to not only by the Yazidi community, but also by all religious and ethnic groups around the world.
