To date, this unique religion contains a variety of elements of Islam, Zoroastrianism, Manichaeism, Gnosticism, Christianity and Judaism. Followers of Yazidism believe in the existence of God and the seven angels, the chief of which is the Malik Taus (angel Peacock). According to one of the variants of the cosmogony of the Yazidis, the emanations of the unknowable Supreme demiurge (Huade or Ezid) are seven angels: they helped in the creation of the world, originally completely covered with water, from the white pearl and rule the world. Then God created the seven heavens, the sun, the moon, the stars, man and animals. Having created man, God, as in the Muslim theological tradition, put the angels to the test. He was ordered to bow to Adam as a perfect creation. The only angel who refused to do so, according to the Yazidis, was Azazel, or Malik Taus. In Islam, an angel who disobeyed God was rejected by Him and became His opponent — Shaytan (Iblis). In Yazidism, Malik Taus, on the contrary, was rewarded by God by being appointed head of the angels and received power over the world for ten thousand years. There are various religious traditions that explain how this happened. One of them says that Taus-I Malik departed from God out of pride, not wanting to obey the created man. According to the main version, disobedience is due to the special devotion of Malik Taus to his Creator. According to these concepts, he refused to worship Adam, because his Creator is the Lord, and the angel should worship only Him and no one else. In Yazidi environment Malik Taus is often identified with the word "Shams" ("sun"). In the oral traditions of Yazidi worship Malik Taus so great that he himself is often depicted as the Creator of the world and the angels, the emanation of the one God, who is supposed to pray five times a day.
