"Cultural street" in Iraq uniting Yazidis, Arabs and Kurds
In 2017, a "Cultural street" was opened in the Nineveh Plain in the Bartella district. The idea of construction arose after the displaced Yezidi population as a result of the war and ethnic cleansing in 2014 returned to the Nineveh Plain areas, after their liberation from the terrorist gangs of ISIS formations. According to Hussam Al Iskandar, director of the so-called "cultural street", this idea is inspired for unity and peace between the local Yezidi, Arab and Kurdish populations.
According to the director, a group of active youth from the Nineveh Plain, local young people of different nationalities and faiths, organized and implemented this project with the support of the Cultural Foundation, the Department of Science and Religion by their own efforts.
All-round exhibitions of books, paintings, crafts are held on the "Cultural Street", children's studios are organized, a musical and theatrical show, and all this is not without the help of the local youth.
"Cultural Street" is a safe and cultural space for all talents, the purpose of which is to convey a wonderful message of solidarity of all the communities of Bartella and the Nineveh Plain to go hand in hand and serve their hometown.
