UNICEF calls for immediate action to address the problem


After seven years of war in 2014, persecution, flight, displacement, the Yazidi people in Iraq and Syria are still in a deplorable state. Yazidi children and youth in refugee and displaced persons camps are at the greatest risk, lack of education, the effects of climate change, creating a problem of water scarcity, can have a deplorable effect on the health of camp residents.
These and other problems were announced by the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF), calling for immediate action to solve them.
Iraq ranks 42nd among the countries with the greatest water shortage in the world. According to UN experts, the climate crisis is also a crisis of the rights of the child. It poses an unprecedented threat to the development, survival and potential of Yazidi children and young people in Iraq.

In this regard, UNICEF called on federal and regional authorities to take several measures, including:

- Increase investment in climate change adaptation and adapt critical services, including water, sanitation and hygiene systems, health and education services;

- Provide children and young people with climate education and skills that are crucial for their adaptation and preparation for the consequences of climate change;

- To promote the civic participation of young people in climate change issues and involve young people in all national, regional and international negotiations and decisions on this issue.
