A grave was dug for the Yezidi girl Siban during her lifetime and a tombstone was placed.
Grave grave, I felt that I was really dead, but when I closed my eyes and opened them, I took down the plaque with my name on the symbolic grave at the cemetery of the Yezidi martyrs with all my courage, so I felt that I was born again."
Siban, a 21-year-old Yezidi woman who lived in the village of Kocho, 22 km southwest of Mount Sinjar, was not surprised by her symbolic grave.
Siban Khalil Ismail about his grave during his lifetime:
"When I was abducted, I often thought about committing suicide. Once, I accidentally met my younger brother in Syria, I asked him, if he managed to escape, to dig a grave for me early in Kocho, since I was a slave, I had no hope of escaping and returning to my relatives.
After some time, namely in 2018, my brother was released, I did not know about it. Upon arrival in Iraq, he told us about the place where we were captured, this place was fired with four rockets. I was seriously injured in the stomach. I managed to get out, but many prisoners and ISIS fighters died.
My relatives, to whom my brother returned, in turn fulfilled my will to make me a grave. So I was not surprised when I saw my grave, because I really felt dead when I was in captivity and slavery to the ISIS terrorists.
This is unimaginable in terms of the size of the genocide of the Yazidi people in Kocho. I never thought that I would see these graves in this place, which used to be a place for weddings and celebrations. Therefore, we Yezidis should not give up, because here on the site of my grave, I was born again and will remain alive and with my head held high I will live on my land where the Yezidi people have lived for thousands of years."
