US: Shangal is still under the control of Hash al-Shaabi and the PKK
US Assistant Secretary of State for Middle East Affairs Joey Hood said that Shangal, where the Yazidi population lives, is still under the control of the Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi militia and the Kurdistan Workers ' Party (PKK).
Speaking during a video conference dedicated to the seventh anniversary of the genocide in Shangala, Joey Hood said that Shangal is still under the control of Hashd al-Shaabi and the PKK, as a result, Yazidi refugees and displaced persons cannot return to their homes.
"As soon as local security forces are established in Shangala, the United States will be ready to train them, but we cannot form these forces. This should be handled by the central government of Iraq," he said.
