Ezidi24 – Hanan Shivan

Madleen Murad a young Yazidi girl spoke to Ezidi24 and said “about 100 years ago, women  were treated as machines, they were doing all the home works, raising children ,beside that they were helping their  husbands doing hard works .They also had to wear traditional clothes, as they put what they called (Kofi), on the top of their heads, which was very heavy ,and causing problems for their necks, this  suffering were lasted for about 60 years, then some women decided to wear scarf instead of Kofi which was much more comfortable . And till now 50% of married women are wearing scarf because they have been used to wear it and they feel like It’s a religious duty to wear those scarf, and as well as some women between the age of 60-80  are still wearing Kofi, but now no one from the modern generation is wearing these things except some women who are wearing them in traditional ceremonies”

Naam a Yazidi women born in 1973 spoke to “Ezidi24 “and said “ In the past some women were not allowed to study, some others  were going only to the primary  school to learn reading and writing, they were not allowed to go to the secondary and high school ,because by their going they will be mixed with boys and I’m one of those women, I wanted to go to secondary school and to finish my education, but my father didn’t let me because it was considered as a shame for women to go and study among men, that’s why we don’t see except a few numbers of females as employees with the age of 50 and above, because their families didn’t let them to complete their education, but by the time and with the constant claims, they got their rights to study, now we can see Yazidi women in various governmental  departments, and in various jobs.”

Hanan Qasim another Yazidi girl, spoke to Ezidi24 and said “Till 2014 the rule of women was increasing day after day, they got some of  their rights, but by ISIS attacking to Sinjar, they  were the most harmed victims, they got through all kind of suffering , they were raped, killed, some of them got suicide because they couldn’t handle the suffering any more, and till now more than 2000 of Yazidi women and children are still kidnapped by ISIS, despite the constant demanding to all the local and international governments. Those women and children have the rights to return back to their families, but unfortunately we are living in a County of corruption, where the officials  who can save them are busy with stealing their rights”

She also added “By ISIS attacking, they thought that they will break the women and return her to what she was before 100 years, but they were wrong, and as an example of that we see many women who succeeded to escape from ISIS have became the symbol of power and peace in the world, one of them is Nadia Murad who succeeded to reach the voice of all the minorities who are living in Iraq to the whole world, and she with the other  Survivors are still demanding the whole world to save those women and children from ISIS”

She concluded her speech by saying “ISIS have finished, but the suffering of  those kidnapped women hasn’t finished yet, because they are still with ISIS families in Al-Hol camp, which locates in the Iraqi-Syrian border, they are afraid to escape, because ISIS will murder   them once they escape, those innocent women and children have the rights to return back to their families sooner or later”.
