"Our culture, traditions and language are being undermined and distorted by the PKK, the Kurdish party. They want to create a special ideology, a special language for the Yazidis. The party's goal in all this is to destroy our existence and that of Shangal … They sow hatred in the hearts of the population towards Kurdistan. PKK fighters are present in Shangal in coordination with and in coordination with the Popular Mobilization Forces. And when Iraqi officials return from Shangal to Baghdad, they say that the situation in the Yazidi region is normal. If the situation is normal, why don't the displaced people return?" said Lukman Kle, a Yazidi activist.
The PKK divided the Shangal district, seized Mount Shangal, and proceeded to destroy it by creating a network of tunnels. Turning the Karaj Guluk district, 35 kilometers from the mountain and located on the border between Syria and Iraq, into its own district, the borders of which can not be approached.
Starting from the Sakini, Bari districts and all the way to the center of Shangal, all are under the control of PKK and NMS militants, so they have joint control and inspection points.
