This week, an official of the election commission of the 17th branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (Shangal branch) reported that 8,752 Yazidi ballots were lost in the ongoing legislative elections in Sinjar, in fact, this means that their owners were deprived of the right to vote.

262,000 eligible voters are registered in the Shangal district, of which, as we said, 8,752 ballots have disappeared without a trace. Naturally, this fact harms the results of local elections to the judiciary. This is not the first time this has happened in this region; a similar problem has been noted since 2018. The next legislative elections are scheduled for October next year, they will be held in a "circular system", which will be in the interests of the population of the Shangal district. The judiciary will have 4 candidates for 1 seat in Shangal. The judiciary will be chosen by residents.

The representative of the election commission of the 17th branch of the Kurdistan Democratic Party explained that there are 25 candidates in the Shangal district and the districts of Kairouan, Garuzir and Snouni (one district), among them there are pro-Yazidi candidates.
