Thousands of Yazidi Kurds, who live in a camp for displaced persons Sardasht on mount Sinjar, urged to provide urgent humanitarian assistance, since the winter has complicated the situation.

Sardasht camp was built in 2014 with 2,300 tents. There are currently 14,300 internally displaced persons (IDPs) and victims who have survived at the hands of Islamists living in the camp.

Despite the fact that the camp has been under construction for six years, IDPs complain that the tents are damaged and have never been replaced.

Ibrahim Hadid, an elderly man displaced from the Sinjar (Shangal), said that there is also a lack of water, basic services and humanitarian assistance. "I implore the government, the humanitarian community and the relevant parties to come to our aid," Khodida told Kurdistan 24 television.

“We ask only for water, electricity, basic humanitarian aid and a doctor.”

Murad Hame, another IDP in the camp, said residents had been without power for 15 days.

"It has been raining heavily for eight days and we have no services, "Hame told Kurdistan 24 television.

"Most humanitarian organizations come here and offer nothing, but use the situation for their advertising.”

Ali Shabo, a spokesman for Iraq's Ministry of migration and displacement, said the weather conditions had affected the living conditions of people in the camps, especially the elderly and children.

“We have children and elderly people who live in the camp. Rain and fog have become commonplace here, which quickly worsens the condition of the tents. The food basket is not the only solution” " he said, calling on the relevant authorities to find radical solutions, not temporary ones.

Chabot noted that the situation of displaced people has not changed in the past five years, and said that humanitarian assistance is not enough.

He called on the Iraqi government to "resolve the political struggle" in Shangal so that its residents can return.

Yazidis have suffered greatly at the hands of Islamic state since its emergence in Iraq in 2014. The occupation of the city of Shangala, where most Yazidis lived, led to the displacement of hundreds of thousands of people. In addition, ISIS militants (banned in Russia) subjected women and girls to sexual slavery, kidnapped children, forced conversion to another religion, executed dozens of men and abused and sold women in areas they controlled in Iraq and Syria.
