The Netherlands Ambassador to Iraq, Hans Sandi, and Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General and UN Resident Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs in Iraq, Ghulam Isakzai, have announced a new phase of the Dutch-funded Prospects programme. The programme focuses on providing services for internally displaced persons (IDPs) and Yazidi refugees.
Prospects is a flagship programme that exemplifies the Netherlands' significant support for realising the link between humanitarian action and development in eight different countries in the MENA region, as well as the East and the Horn of Africa. The programme brings together five organisations - UNHCR, UNICEF, ILO, IFC and the World Bank - working to find durable solutions in Iraq.
A budget of €48 million has been allocated for education and training, employment, protection, and critical infrastructure programmes for refugees.

Thanks to the Prospects programme, in its first four years, nearly 4,000 children from minority families, including Yazidi IDPs, were enrolled in secondary school. Additionally, over 130 refugee entrepreneurs gained access to microfinance loans for the first time in Iraq, and more than 45,000 IDPs received their civil documentation.
