Extraordinary military movements are taking place on Mount Sinjar in Iraq's Nineveh province amid ongoing tensions between Israel and Palestine and recent reports of preparations to launch rockets potentially threatening Israel.

Yazidi veteran Sheikh Zedo Baadri told local Yazidi media and BasNews: - "mysterious military movements" on Mount Sinjar, which he said are sowing fear and anxiety among the local Yazidi population. The lowlands below the mountain are home to Yazidi peaceful villages.

The said mountain is the highest peak closest to the State of Israel, Mount Sinjar is a holy place for the Yazidi people.

During the reign of Saddam Hussein in 1991, 39 rockets were fired from it at Israel. Analysts have drawn parallels between then and now in the Middle East.

On Wednesday, a journalist representing the Al-Arabiya and Al-Haddad channels reported on preparations for a potential launch of rockets into Israel from Iraqi territory, specifically from Mount Sinjar.

Currently, the Sinjar area is partially under the control of (KRG), Hashd al-Shaabi militias, local Yazidi self-defense militias, etc. Last week, the pro-Iranian "Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada" forces in Iraq expressed their willingness to go to war with Israel because of the escalating conflict with Palestine. "Kataib Sayyid al-Shuhada is affiliated with the Iranian-backed Hashd al-Shaabi militias."

The developments follow an escalation in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which resumed when Palestinian Hamas launched a surprise attack on Israel two weeks ago. The clashes have resulted in thousands of casualties on both sides.
