The head of the border department of the Lalish base in Sinjar expressed concern about the blatant practice of recruiting hundreds of Yazidi children under the age of 18 by illegal armed groups.

Suleiman Fano said in a statement that these groups continue to use opportunities to recruit and arm Yazidi children from poor families and orphans, further worsening the situation of Sinjar residents.

"The situation in Sinjar is getting worse day by day, and there are no signs of improvement. These illegal groups harass and educate children in the area. Unfortunately, despite the fact that nine years have passed since the genocide of Yazidi population in Sinjar, many children captured and indoctrinated by ISIS remain trapped, unable to return to their families", Fano said.

Sinjar has witnessed numerous occupations, and the return of IS family members from camps in Syria with the assistance of the Iraqi Federal Government has exacerbated the problems faced by the victims of the genocide, depriving them of the opportunity to return to their homes and to a normal life.

In mid-2014, ISIS occupied Yazidi district of Sinjar. The terrorist actions of ISIS have caused the death and abduction of thousands of civilians, including women and children.

After the liberation of Sinjar, armed groups remained in the area, which are accused of illegal recruitment of teenagers. Earlier, the head of the Kurdistan Special Directorate for Abducted Yazidis, Hussein Kaidi, said that 3,570 Yazidi women and children had been rescued to date. At the same time, statistics show that 2,600 Yazidis remain missing.
