In the town of Khanasor in Shangal, Yazidis pick up musical instruments to somehow muffle their pain.

The Mirzo College of Music (MIM) opened last year, the purpose of this educational institution is not only to teach music, but also to help the surviving Yazidis forget the pain and grief they suffered in 2014 through music.

“We want everyone to join these music lessons. We want more women rescued from Daesh (ISIL) to join us in order to forget the trauma they experienced under ISIL," Amira Barakat, a final — year student, told Rudaw TV.

Sixty-five men, women and children have already completed training courses at this educational institution. Classes are held three days a week, for two hours, where both theory and practice are conducted.
