Some reflections on concepts of time in Yazidism

Introduction
One of the very many complicated questions in Yezidism which need to be explored more thoroughly is that of the different concepts of time in this religion. The aim of this paper is to present some reflections on this subject, which has never been the issue of a separate investigation. The work dwells especially on the question of the different kinds of time in cosmogonical and cosmological contexts, which are mentioned in rather an implicit manner in the Yezidi Qewls (religious hymns). The paper comprises two parts: investigation of the concept of time in the cosmogony in the first part, which includes some concepts such as enzel . The concepts which concern the events before and during the creation of the world will be discussed and the creation of the time units will be also explained. The second part of the article discusses time concepts relating to cosmology. It consists of three sections: first, the periodic concept of time will be discussed; second, the idea of three big time periods in the history of the world, and finally a linear concept of time which correlates with the eschatology. At the end of the article a diagram which shows schematically all the discussed concepts in the paper will be offered. We are happy to present this paper to Prof. Philip Kreyenbroek on his 60 th birthday because of his invaluable research in Yazidology, which is only one of a wide variety of fields within Iranian Studies which have benefited from his scholarship over the years.
