As a result of the meeting of the national security Council of Georgia, it was decided to close all retail facilities in the country, with the exception of grocery stores, pharmacy chains, gas stations, and Bank and post offices. This was stated at a special briefing by Prime Minister George Gakharia.

According to the head of government, several other decisions were made at the meeting, which was also attended by President Salome Zurabishvili and speaker of the Parliament Archil Talakvadze.

Gakharia explained this by saying that a new COVID-19 coronavirus is currently spreading in Georgia, so additional measures need to be tightened. At the same time, the Prime Minister of Georgia stated that there is no need to introduce a state of emergency at the moment, but if such a need arises, the government will definitely resort to this measure.
"Since the security Council meeting was attended by the President of Georgia and the speaker of the Parliament, we discussed the possibility of declaring a state of emergency throughout the country. Today, I would like to emphasize that there is no such need, but we agreed with the President that as soon as there is such a need, we will be able to make this decision within a few hours, and then ensure its implementation.

This decision can be made tomorrow, the day after tomorrow, as soon as there is such a need, as soon as our doctors, the health system tells us that in order to stop the spread of the virus, this decision must be made, we will make this decision," the Prime Minister said.
