Georgia may allow carrying gas weapons
According to the bill, it is prohibited to carry gas weapons openly, as well as to display them in public. Amendments to the law "On Weapons", allowing citizens to carry gas weapons, have already been initiated in the Parliament of Georgia.
The bill states that since gas weapons are a means of protection and perform a protective function, their registration is carried out with the right to carry, but under certain conditions. Previously, only representatives of a legal entity under public law could carry gas weapons.
According to the bill, it is prohibited to carry gas weapons openly, as well as to display them in public.
At the same time, according to the bill, the use of sound (acoustic) weapons is prohibited. It is only allowed to be used for a specific purpose – in theater productions, film and TV shows, historical reenactments, parades, and sporting events.
The decision is explained by the fact that this type of weapon does not have a protective function, so individuals are prohibited from carrying it.
"According to statistics, in 2020, 18 robberies were committed with the use of sound weapons, and in 2021 (as of April this year) – 8 robberies. In 2020, 24 other violent crimes were committed with the use of sound weapons, and in 2021 – 12. Gas, sound and pneumatic weapons were seized in 755 cases in 2020-2021," the bill says.
The law "On Weapons" gives a clear definition of gas weapons to avoid incorrect interpretations. This is a pistol or revolver designed to temporarily disable a living object with the help of tear or irritating substances, with a special stationary limiter that excludes the shot of a projectile or shotgun shells in the barrel or drum.
The rules for the purchase of weapons in Georgia are also regulated by the law "On Weapons".
