Yazidi Cultural Center fundraiser rescheduled to March 9
Friends of Whitehall Mansion will host a fundraiser for the Yazidi Cultural Center from 2-5 p.m. Saturday, March 9, at Whitehall Mansion, 5903 Walker Ave. The event was postponed from the originally scheduled Feb. 23 date due to snow.
Learn firsthand about the wonderful and diverse Yazidi people, whose optimism and courage continues despite attempts of genocide on their people.
In this presentation, you will hear inspiring stories and learn about the Yazidi culture. There will be delicious ethnic food to try and artwork created by Yazidi survivors to view.
Proceeds will benefit the Yazidi Cultural Center, which provides Yazidi refugees basic services to help them acclimate to the U.S. while preserving their own culture.
Services include teaching English to Yazidi people relocating to Lincoln, teaching Kurmanji (Yazidi native language) to Yazidi children, and providing assistance to Yazidi refugees, after-school programming for Yazidi children, summer camps, and integration and social adjustment classes.
