Tikaradze: Georgia will receive another 600 thousand Chinese vaccine Sinopharm
Georgia will receive another 600 thousand doses of the Chinese vaccine Sinopharm, said the head of the Ministry of Health Ekaterina Tikaradze.
According to the minister, in June Georgia will receive another 250 thousand doses of this vaccine.
"Of course, there will be additional doses. We already have access to a hundred thousand doses. In June, we are waiting for an additional 250 thousand doses and there is an agreement for another 250 thousand. This means that in addition to the amount that is already fully booked today, an additional 600 thousand doses of Sinopharm will be available for us, " Tikaradze said on Rustavi-2 TV.
Tikaradze believes that the rate of vaccination in Georgia has increased dramatically: on May 5, a record number of vaccinated people was recorded in Georgia — more than 3.6 thousand people.
Vaccination against coronavirus in Georgia began on March 15 with AstraZeneca. At the first stage, doctors who belong to the largest risk group were vaccinated, but due to low activity, the vaccination program expanded and citizens over 65 years of age were added to the doctors, and then over 55 years of age. After receiving the Chinese Sinopharm vaccine, all citizens over the age of 18 can enroll for vaccination.
Vaccination with the Chinese drug Sinopharm in Georgia began on May 4. Georgia received the first one hundred thousand doses of this drug in April.
According to the latest data, 51,600 people received the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine in Georgia.
