The University of Pennsylvania and the Yazidi Spiritual Assembly (DSE) have signed an agreement under which the Yazidi lalish temple in Shangala will be given its original historical appearance. According to an agreement signed between the University of Pennsylvania and the Yazidi Spiritual Assembly, all construction upgrades made to the Lalish temple over the past 50 years will be dismantled, in order to recreate the original historical appearance of the temple.

Lalish temple has been repeatedly repaired, as a result of its original historical form and structure of the structure has not been preserved.

The US government has allocated 500 thousand dollars for restoration work to recreate the original image of the temple.
