Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II received in his residence the leaders of the existing religious denominations in the country on the occasion of the International day of tolerance. This was reported in the press service of the Patriarchate of Georgia.Among the guests were representatives of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Evangelical Lutheran Church, the Evangelical Christian Church, the Jewish community, the Muslim administration and the Yazidi spiritual Council.

Elijah II congratulated them on the day of tolerance, noting the importance of their efforts to maintain peace and mutual respect. The head of the Georgian Orthodox Church also spoke about the problems and challenges of the modern world.

In turn, the guests stressed that Georgia is a historically tolerant country, and the Orthodox Church and the Catholicos-Patriarch personally contribute to the strengthening of tolerance and peaceful coexistence of various religious and ethnic groups through their activities.

The Patriarch of Georgia stressed the importance of protecting the sanctity and steadfastness of the family, as "a strong and strong family is a prerequisite for a successful country".

The participants of the meeting expressed their support and respect for the Catholicos-Patriarch and thanked him for protecting traditional values.

The Patriarch thanked the religious leaders and wished them productive work for the benefit of the country and the people.

The international day of tolerance is celebrated annually on November 16. On this day in 1995, UNESCO member States adopted the Declaration of principles of tolerance and the Programme of action. In 1996, the General Assembly invited UN member States to celebrate this day annually by holding various events aimed at both educational institutions and the General public.

The main goal of the Day is to raise public awareness about the dangers of intolerance, extremism and discrimination. In Georgia, this holiday was first celebrated in 2016 under the patronage of the Patriarch of catalikos.
