The Prosecutor’s Office of Georgia (POG) on Monday asked German and Belgium agencies to arrest and extradite the wanted former Prosecutor General and Justice Minister of Georgia, Zurab Adeishvili, back to the country.

The POG statement followed media reports that Zurab Adeishvili along with Ukrainian Prosecutor General last month visited the European Union and German official structures.

The Prosecutor’s Office said it had been implementing all measures to bring individuals who had committed crimes in Georgia to justice regardless of their location.

Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili earlier today met with EU Ambassador to Georgia Paweł Herczyński, and German Ambassador to Georgia Peter Fischer over the issue.

The government of Georgia also issued a statement, saying, “the admission of Zurab Adeishvili at the premises of the European Union and Federal Republic of Germany undermines the perception that European bureaucracy remains loyal to the ideals of a legal statehood.”
