Amnesty should not be tailored to individuals, - the Minister of Justice of Georgia, Rati Bregadze, thus answered journalists' question whether the amnesty bill should apply to ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili.

As the Minister told journalists, the issue of amnesty requires a very detailed analysis, and first of all, the security issues of the state should be taken into account.

"Amnesty requires a very complex thinking, because both its pros and cons must be weighed and the risks must be calculated. All risks must be insured, including public safety, and only then can a decision on amnesty be made. The Parliament of Georgia is discussing the specific form, it is their prerogative", said Bregadze.

The amnesty act submitted to the Parliament by the part of the parliamentary opposition applies to persons who have been sentenced to life imprisonment. They will be sentenced to 30 years in prison. Years already served will be deducted from the mentioned term.

According to the same bill, persons who have committed crimes provided for in Articles 273/1 and 265 of the Criminal Code will be released from punishment.

The punishment for serious and especially serious crimes will be reduced by ¼. The amnesty bill is prepared by Girchi.
